Module Outline
The aim of the 鈥楰ey academic skills鈥 module is to support PGT students to understand and master key academic skills and expectations in the UK system to enable them to do as well as possible in their master鈥檚 study in social science at Sussex. It is an optional, but highly encouraged, module timetabled to be accessible to all PGT students in Global Studies. The aims of the module are to support students to:
鈼 Understand and master core academic skills and expectations in the UK system to enable them to do as well as possible in their master鈥檚 study in social science at Sussex.
鈼 Better identify and evaluate various academic / other information sources
鈼 Improve their critical reading skills and develop notetaking techniques that work for them.
鈼 Improve their academic writing skills in key areas e.g. synthesising literature, structuring an argument, explaining and evidencing points, improving originality.
鈼 Understand academic integrity and standards and avoid plagiarism and other academic misconduct, especially in the era of AI tools such as Chat GPT
The module is taught through interactive 2-hour workshops which incorporate some practical skills building and also signposts students to other study skills support at Sussex.
