Reimagining Peace and Justice (031IDS)
Reimagining Peace and Justice
Module 031IDS
Module details for 2023/24.
30 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
This module will critically explore peace and peacemaking, with an emphasis on how we can
conceive of forms of peace built on justice and sustainability. The module will centre diverse,
alternative, creative and transformative approaches to peace and justice, and look at how
local populations around the world seek to create and negotiate alternatives to externally-
driven liberal and militarized peacebuilding interventions. Throughout the module, students
will critically reflect on what constitutes peace, what justice-driven peace might look like in
practice, and how different forms of peace-making enhance or undermine justice.
Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate an awareness of different understandings and perceptions
of peace and justice
Demonstrate an understanding of the complex linkages between peace
and justice, and explain how both can be enhanced both during and in
the aftermath of violence
Engage with creative expressions of knowledge from violence-
affected populations, and demonstrate how these can contribute to
peace and justice.
Apply pluriversal ways of knowing and being to consider alternative
modes of peacemaking and assess the extent to which they contribute
to justice.
