Climate change: Impacts and Adaptation
Module 838F8
Module details for 2025/26.
30 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
This module explores critical questions about climate change adaptation: What are the impacts of
exceeding 1.5°C warming? How should countries adapt, and who should bear the costs? Adopting a
global and interdisciplinary perspective, the module explores diverse adaptation paradigms with
emphasis throughout on justice and equity. It examines climate impacts and risks under various warming
scenarios, decision-making under uncertainty, and real-world adaptation strategies across a range of
scales and thematic areas (e.g., health, water, ecosystems). It also explores key adaptation policy issues,
including the role of the UNFCCC, finance, and the emerging significance of Loss and Damage in climate
governance.
Module learning outcomes
A comprehensive understanding of likely climate impacts and risks under
different warming scenarios, associated uncertainties and implications for
adaptation planning.

including vulnerability, exposure and risk.
Ability to critically analyse climate change adaptation programmes, plans
