Module Outline

During your final year you are required to design and implement an empirical investigation in the field of geography. The Geography Thesis entails the collection and analysis of primary and/or secondary data and presenting your findings as a piece of formally structured, individual research. This is the opportunity to put into practice the training that you will have received in your second year regarding specific techniques of collecting and analysing data and primary source material. You will receive individual 1:1 and group supervision in the design, execution and writing up of your thesis project throughout your final year.

Module learning outcomes

Show knowledge of a specific geographical topic.

Show knowledge of a particular set of conceptual approaches to geographical study.

Understand the challenges of empirical geographical research.

Understand and respond to practical research problems (e.g. collection and access to study sites, handling and data analysis, and writing-up)

Demonstrate that they can produce a professional piece of work based upon original research.
